MT. PLEASANT — The Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team had its hands full on Saturday as not one but two undefeated teams came to Ruble Arena for the Tigers’ home triangular.
Iowa Wesleyan was unable to shake either. Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College vanquished the Tigers 25-19, 25-17, 25-13 in the morning game, and the Tigers tumbled against Waldorf University, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-18.
In the match against St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Iowa Wesleyan was plagued by 25 errors and only 21 kills. Despite this, Maddie Saia was able to shine through with eight kills to lead the team. Emma Lincoln finished the game with five kills, and Shae Scott had four.
Malie DeMate dished out a team-leading 14 assists, and also finished second on the squad with seven digs. Alexis Hafenstine paced the defense with 16 digs.
The Tigers cut down on the errors in the later match, committing just 18 against Waldorf and tallying 23 kills, but the Waldorf hitters were tremendous, collecting 40 kills of their own.
Saia led the way again at the net, putting up seven kills against Waldorf. Lincoln finished the game with six. Scott and Bethany Williams had four each.
DeMate led the team again in assists, with 22. Hafenstine collected 15 digs.
