Iowa Wesleyan volleyball ends season with win
Tigers upset Harris Stowe in 5-set thriller to finish year on high note

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — On Sept. 12, a then winless Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team was swept by the Harris-Stowe State Hornets in a home game at Ruble Arena. A month and a half later, the Tigers got their revenge.
In the final game on the schedule, Iowa Wesleyan went into St. Louis and knocked off the Hornets in a five-set nail-biter. The Tigers prevailed 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 17-25, 15-7.
The Tigers used a 12-kill game from Madison Saia to skate past the Hornets. Emma Lincoln added six. Emily Gehring had five, and Leamaris Fuentes finished with three.
Mackenzie Springsteen dished out a team-high 18 assists in the win. Fuentes had 13 assists and eight digs. Kyra Linkin had 11 digs.
The Tigers had eight service aces in the win, including four by Leaneris Fuentes.
Iowa Wesleyan ended the year 6-25. The Tigers won went 3-5 in the Continental Athletic Conference, picking up two wins over Crowley’s Ridge College and one over Haskell Indian Nations University.
Haskell Indian Nations was one of four CAC tournament qualifiers. Florida College, Florida National and Fisher College took the other three bids.
