Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team picks up first win
Tigers end their slump with sweep of Cottey College

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — After a tough beginning of the schedule, the Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team finally got its first win of the 2022 season this weekend.
The Tigers played in the university of Health, Sciences and Pharmacy tournament in St. Louis, Mo., which took place on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers went 1-3 with a win over Cottey College.
Iowa Wesleyan swept Cottey 25-15, 25-21 and 25-22. In other games, the Tigers fell to College of the Ozarks in four sets and dropped three-set matches to UHSP and Bethel College.
In the win over Cottey, Emma Lincoln went off for 11 kills to lead the team. Malie DeMate and Shea Scott each had eight kills, and Bethany Wiliams finished with five.
Alexis Hafenstine tallied 11 digs in the victory. DeMate had 10, Leamaris Fuentes finished with nine, and Kyra Linkin had eight.
DeMate also showed out in the assists category, finishing the game with 19 helpers. Fuentes dished out 14.
The Tigers are now 1-13 overall heading into the last two weeks before conference play. They will head to Ankeny on Tuesday to play at Faith Baptist Bible College.
