Iowa Wesleyan women’s soccer shuts down Waldorf, men fall

FOREST CITY — A big second half propelled the Iowa Wesleyan women’s soccer team past Waldorf on Saturday, as the Tiger soccer teams finished up the season in Forest City.
The Tiger women scored three goals in the second half to upend the Vikings 3-0. The men fell 1-0.
Iowa Wesleyan was tied with Waldorf 0-0 at halftime in both games. The women were able to find some room right away in the second, breaking the tie when Baylee Alvarado scored on an assist by Jacqueline Campos just 32 seconds into the second half.
The Tigers scored again in the 56th minute, as Bella Goodson found the back of the net to make it 2-0. Campos netted one 13 minutes later to put the exclamation point on the win.
The Tigers finished the day with eight shots on goal to Waldorf’s four. Iowa Wesleyan goalkeeper Kylie Mulhern-Guilli saved all four shots faced in her 82 minute sof work. Cheleena Squibb was in net for eight minutes, but never faced a shot on goal.
The Tiger men couldn’t find any offense in their game. Waldorf’s Goitom Kidane scored the only goal of the contest, putting one in the net in the 53rd minute.
The Tiger men did have 10 shots on goal to Waldorf’s eight, and even earned 10 corner kicks. Francisco Javier Saldana led the team with three shots on goal. Xavier Lozada, Richard Arch and Ruben Acosta each had two, and Jose Bula finished with one.
Alvaro Morera faced eight shots in net for the Tiger men. He saved seven.
