Just one season in to Iowa Wesleyan’s venture into the Continental Athletic Conference, and the Tiger baseball team already has the league’s top coach.
Tiger head coach Blake Beaber, a Mt. Pleasant grad, was named 2022 CAC Coach of the Year.
The conference announced its end-of-year awards last week after the conclusion of the league’s tournament.
Beaber, who just completed his fifth season as the Tigers’ skipper, led the team to a 21-30 overall record. The team was 5-2 in conference play.
Iowa Wesleyan won one game in the CAC tournament, a 9-7 win over Edward Waters on Sunday, May 8. The Tigers, which earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament, came one win away from a Top-2 finish and a berth in the national tournament before getting upended 9-6 by Fisher College.
Beaber wasn’t the only Tigers on the All-Conference list. Luis Ayesa (7-3, 4.45 ERA) was named to the team as a starting pitcher. Cristian Cordero (. 311, 11 doubles, 8 HRs, 37 RBIs) was named as an outfielder, and Derek Marrufo (. 308, 7 doubles, 2 HRs) was named to the honorable mention list as a utility player.
