Two area boys basketball standouts earned spots on the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association’s all-state teams. The IPSWA released its first, second and third teams for all four classes Monday.
Mid-Prairie’s Bryce Henry and Keota’s Chase Haifley each represented their respective Union area schools on the all-state lists. Henry landed on the Class 2A third team, while Haifley was included on the third team for Class 1A.
Henry made the 2A third team for a second straight season after he led Mid-Prairie with 17.4 points 5.9 rebounds per game. The senior also averaged 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals. Henry’s 400 points ranked fourth in the River Valley Conference South division.
The Golden Hawks made the most 3-pointers in the conference with 197. Henry was responsible for 72 of those makes — the most by any player in the division and the seventh most in Class 2A. He knocked down outside shots at a lethally efficient 40.4% clip.
Mid-Prairie went 16-7 in Henry’s final prep season. They picked up a win in the 2A Region 5 quarterfinals over Mediapolis before falling to Northeast in the semis.
Haifley helped Keota to a 15-7 campaign and a 10-6 mark in the South Iowa Cedar League. He is the second Eagles player to land on the 1A third team in as many seasons after Billie Kindred earned a spot in his senior season.
Haifley’s 15.9 points per game ranked fourth in the SICL. He tallied the second most assists in the conference with 109 and averaged 2.7 steals, the fourth best per game mark in the league.
