IW baseball ends season at CAC Championships
Tigers gain ground, but fail to make comeback against the Fisher Falcons

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — The Iowa Wesleyan baseball teams season came to an end on Sunday afternoon with a loss to Fisher College in the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Championships.
After falling 10-0 to Georgia Gwinnett College on Saturday, the Tigers bounced back with a 9-7 victory over Edward Waters University to advance against Fisher.
The elimination game against the Falcons was a battle between both teams.
Fisher got on the board first in the opening inning off an Iowa Wesleyan error.
The Falcons added another run in the second inning after hitting a double down the left field line.
Iowa Wesleyan struggled to get the bats going through the first four innings, as Fisher poured it on.
Through the fourth and fifth innings, the Falcons scored an additional four runs to put the Tigers down 6-0.
The Tigers broke the scoring drought in their half of the fifth off an hit from Corbin Broeker and an error by the Falcons’ shortstop, bringing Gabriel Hernandez across home plate, making it 6-1.
Fisher put another run on the board in the sixth inning and Iowa Wesleyan followed with a string of hits for three runs.
Cristian Cordero send an RBI single down the right field line to score Froymer Ortega. Julian Figueroa delivered tallied an RBI, bringing Sage Bonner home. The third run came from the hands of David Amaya. Amaya hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field scoring Cordero, cutting the Fisher lead to 7-4.
The Falcons had all the answers though, scoring two more times, once in the seventh and again in the eighth.
Iowa Wesleyan answered back with Amaya doubling down the left field line to score Phillip Guerrero in the eighth inning. Amaya advanced to third on a fielding error by Fisher’s left fielder.
Amaya was then brought home of a sacrifice fly from Carlos Vicente making it an 9-6 ballgame.
The Amaya run would be the last score in the game as the Tigers wouldn’t make the comeback.
Daniel Roberts spent three innings on the mound for the Tigers. Roberts gave up three hits, one earned run, zero walks and struck out four.
The loss marks the end of the season for Iowa Wesleyan. The Tigers finish with an overall record of 21-30, which is 12 more wins than they tallied last season.
Sage Bonner and the Iowa Wesleyan baseball team ended their season on Sunday, May 8, 2022 in a loss to Fisher College. Bonner went 3-5 in the ballgame. (Andy Krutsinger/The Union)
