LAKELAND, Fla. — The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team had a mountain to climb this weekend as the Tigers traveled south to take on the top-ranked team in the NAIA in a four-game series.
No. 1 Southeastern University had too much for the Tigers. The Fire won all four games, taking them 17-1(7), 13-2(7), 26-0(7) and 13-1(7).
The lone RBI in Game 1 came off the bat of Jace Figueroa, who went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in the loss.
In Game 2, the Tigers had a short-lived 1-0 lead when Froymer Ortega singled in Zach Graham in the second inning. Sucre Guzman scored Ortega on an RBI double in the seventh.
After getting shut out in Game 3, the Tigers gave up the first 13 runs in Game 4. Riley Rankin spoiled the Saturday shut out with a solo home run in the fifth.
Iowa Wesleyan is now 3-11 on the season. The Tigers will play games at the University of South Carolina — Beaufort on Tuesday and Wednesday.
