IW baseball shutout at Washington University

St. Louis, MO -The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team took on Washington University in St. Louis in a nonconference contest Tuesday, March 26. The Bears proved to be too much as they shut the Tigers out 11-0 in the nine inning game.
Everett Swinson and the Iowa Wesleyan defense held Washington University in St. Louis scoreless through the first two inning of play. Despite eight hits in the game, the Tigers could not bring the base runners around to score. Ricardo Mollison led the second inning off with a double down the left field line.
The Bears were able to break through and get on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third. They added three more in the bottom of the fourth before Iowa Wesleyan's defense held them scoreless for two more innings. After three hits and an error by IW, WashU scored two more runs in the seventh. Their final runs came in the eighth inning when their offense plated four runs.
Michael Rojas led the ninth inning off with a double to left field, but the Tigers came up empty in their next three at-bats. The Bears completed the shutout and defeated IW 11-0 in the non-conference game.
Swinson led the pitching staff with two strikeouts in three innings of work. Joe Morrison threw three innings in relief, and William Hlady and Mitchell Wilcox each added an inning of work for the Tigers. Nick Salas and Ricardo Mollison went 2-4 at the plate, while Rojas was 1-2 with the double.
Iowa Wesleyan will return to SLIAC play this weekend when they travel to Eureka College. They will play a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, and wrap up the series on Sunday, March 31. IW is now 3-12-1 overall this season.
