IW baseball wins pair against Crowley’s Ridge
Tigers see victory and defeat against Pioneers

PARAGOULD, Ark. — The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team picked a pair of wins over Crowley’s Ridge College between Friday and Saturday.
The Tigers were winners of back-to-back games, 4-1 and 8-4, but fell in the final game of the series 10-6.
In the opening game of three, the Tigers led off with a two run inning.
The Tigers kept the bats going in the second, bringing an additional two runs home which would prove to be enough to win it.
The Pioneers scored one in the third, but the Tigers never gave up more than that on their way to the win.
David Amaya, Sage Bonner and Derek Marrufo all had a pair of hits in the win. Julian Figueroa and Bonner had two RBIs.
Sucre Guzman, Figueroa, Froymer Ortega and Philip Guerrero each finished with one hit.
Cauy Massner gave up just six hits in seven innings, while striking out nine.
Tavares Tim threw two innings, giving up one hit and striking out four.
In the second game of the series, the Tigers continued to click early and often.
Iowa Wesleyan dropped in six of its eight runs in the first two innings.
The Tigers coupled impressive offense with great defense, holding the Pioneers scoreless through five innings.
Iowa Wesleyan added an additional run in the fourth to make it 7-0.
After a scoreless fifth by both teams, Crowley’s Ridge began to rallied in the sixth as they scored four runs to make it 7-4.
With an inning to go, the Tigers were able to hang on, adding one insurance run in the seventh.
Marrufo led the Tigers with three hits in the win. He also added three RBIs. Ortega and Holvin Catala each had a pair of hits. Catala ended with two RBIs as well.
Luis Ayesa took the win on the mound pitching a full game while allowing just four hits, four runs (four earned) and eight strikeouts.
In game number three, Crowley’s Ridge was hot out of the gate.
The Pioneers scored four runs in the first and would never lose the lead.
Iowa Wesleyan answered back with two runs themselves in the second, but the Tigers wouldn’t score again for three innings.
During that span, the Pioneers added two more to their total to make it 6-2.
The Tigers gain immense ground in the top half of the sixth, tying it with four runs 6-6, but the Pioneers answered back in their half of the inning with four as well.
Iowa Wesleyan went scoreless in the top of the seventh ending the game.
Guzman and Bonner each had three hits in the loss. Bonner finished with one RBI as well.
Pedro Ramirez pitched five innings, giving up 11 hits, nine runs (nine earned) and nine strikeouts. Ian Clements gave up two hits in one innings, one run (one earned) and one strikeout.
