IW doubles up on Hannibal-LaGrange
Tigers sweep doubleheader against the Trojans

The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team had everything going on Tuesday afternoon against the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University, picking up back-to-back wins in a doubleheader.
In the first of the two games, Iowa Wesleyan quickly took control with Froymer Ortega scoring off an error for the first point of the game. Julian Figueroa then delivered with an RBI double, scoring Corbin Broeker to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
A wild pitch from the Trojans then gave Drew Cook a free pass across the plate, giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead after three innings.
Hannibal-LaGrange wasn’t going down without a fight. Over the next three inning, the Trojans bounced back with a 4-3 lead.
Following a scoreless sixth inning, Iowa Wesleyan found its coming. Figueroa hit a sacrifice fly to score Ortega and an error from the Trojans shortstop allowed Broeker to score, propelling the Tigers to victory.
Ortega ended the day 1-3 from the plate with a single and scored twice. Figueroa was 1-2 from the batters box with two RBIs. Cook finished the day 2-4 with two singles and scored one run.
Javier Rivera pitched four innings, giving up just three runs and four hits. Carter Fletcher closed for the Tigers, giving up no runs.
In the second game, it was all Iowa Wesleyan.
The Tigers poured in five runs in the first inning alone. It didn’t end there as one inning later, eight additional runs were added for the Tigers making it an 13-0 ballgame.
Iowa Wesleyan added four more runs over the course of the game, one in fourth, two in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Hannibal-LaGrange scored two runs in the seventh, but the damage was done.
David Amaya was 3-4 at the plate with two singles and a triple. Amaya scored two runs and recorded four RBIs.
Cristian Cordero finished 3-5 with two singles and a solo home run. He scored three runs and ended with three RBIs.
Sage Bonner was 2-4 in the box with a single and triple. Bonner scored three runs and had an RBI.
Derek Marrufo batted 3-4 on the day with two doubles and a single. He finished with two RBIs.
Jackson Van Roekal pitched 6.1 innings, allowing just two hits and two runs.
