IW football drops home game

The Iowa Wesleyan football team hosted the College of Saint Scholastica on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers were unable to overcome the first half scores by the Saints, suffering a 44-20 loss.
Saint Scholastica scored the first two touchdowns of the game, taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Iowa Wesleyan was able to cut it to a one score game with 5:22 remaining in the second quarter. Demarcus Collins and Kyle Divelbiss connected on a 16 yard pass for the Tigers first touchdown of the game. Jeremy Scholbrock kicked the extra point to bring the score to 14-7, ending an eight-play drive that covered 65 yards.
Before the half was up, Saint Scholastica was able to find the end zone two more times. They went 1-2 on extra point attempts which resulted in the Tigers trailing 7-27 at the break.
Iowa Wesleyan start their first possession of the third quarter moving the ball well. They picked up two first downs on the drive, but after a rush for a loss, the Saints returned an interception for a touchdown to extend their lead.
The Tigers would score twice more before the end of the game. Stafford Lewis found the end zone on a two yard rush. He capped off a four-play drive that covered 47 yards to bring the score to 34-13. Lewis added an 18 yard rushing touchdown for the team's final score of the game. His touchdown came with 7 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
Saint Scholastica scored a touchdown and a field goal in the fourth quarter. The field goal was the final score of the game for either team, which resulted in a 44-20 win for the Saints.
Stafford Lewis rushed for 107 yards, averaging 6.7 yards per carry and had two touchdowns. Kyle Divelbiss led the receivers with three receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown.
Craig Wrenn led the defense with seven solo tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and three pass breakups. Noah Ross, Chase Tennant and Marco Ventura also each had seven total tackles. Ross recorded an interception and Ventura had a forced fumble for the Tigers.
Iowa Wesleyan will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 10. They will host Greenville University at 1 p.m. It will be the final home game of the season and seniors will be recognized prior to the game. The Tigers are now 1-7 overall and 1-5 in UMAC play.
