The Iowa Wesleyan football team is still over a month away from opening their 2019 schedule but the school released its schedules early this month. The Tigers will play 10 games in the regular season, six on the road and four at home.
IW is coming off a 1-9 season in 2018. The Tigers couldn't buy a close win in 2018, losing four of their games by seven points or less.
The Tigers will open the year on the road against Cornell College on Sept. 7. IW opened the 2018 schedule against Cornell as well. The Tigers went down 21-0 before staging a late comeback and eventually falling 27-21.
IW will play another road game in week two, traveling to Knox College on Sept. 14. Knox had just two wins last season and will take the place of Eureka College on IW's schedule.
Eureka left the UMAC (Upper Midwest Athletic Conference) after the 2017 season but still played the Tigers in the nonconference schedule. IW played the Red Devils in each of the past six years, going 1-5. This will be the first time Eureka doesn't show up on IW's schedule since the 2012 slate.
The Tigers will play their first home game of the year on Sept. 21. It will also mark the team's first UMAC game of the year, and it's against a very familiar opponent in Westminster. The Blue Jays defeated the Tigers 35-10 last season at their place.
IW will host their homecoming game on Sept. 28. They'll take on the University of Minnesota-Morris, a team that nipped the Tigers 13-7 last season.
The homecoming game should be a tight one. The Tigers have played Minnesota-Morris in each of the last six years, going 2-4. The last five games between the two squads have been decided by eight points or less.
The Tigers will begin October with their first two conference road games. They'll travel to Crown College on Oct. 5, just over a year after beating the Storm 44-7 for IW's only win last season. After that, they'll head north to play defending UMAC champion Martin Luther College on Oct. 12.
The Tigers will have two weeks to prepare for their return to Mapleleaf Athletic Complex on Oct. 26 against MacMurray.
They'll play two November road games against the College of Saint Scholastica on the second and Greenville University on the ninth. The University of Northwestern - St. Paul will head south to play IW in their final home game on Nov. 16.
