Iowa Wesleyan men’s and women’s soccer had a couple tough outings over the weekend with losses on the road.
The Tiger men traveled to Fremont, Nebraska to face off with Midland University, while the women headed to Canton, Missouri to battle Culver-Stockton.
For the men, it was a tightly contested 1-0 loss, while the women were bested 6-0.
On the men’s side, the two squads went scoreless over the first 11 minutes of the match, but the Warriors broke open the scoring in the 12th minute off a corner kick.
It was Midland’s Dawson Butcher who found the back of the net off a kick from Thomas Moulder. The goal would prove to be the game winner as Iowa Wesleyan could never find the back of the net.
The Tigers finished with 10 total shots in the loss, seven of which were on goal.
Midland ended the match with a total of 26 shots, with seven on goal as well.
Francisco Javier Saldana finished with five shots, three on goal in the loss. Thomas Mullen had two shots.
Alvaro Morera finished with five saves in the net for Iowa Wesleyan.
With the loss the Tiger men fall to 0-6 on the season. They will take on the University of Health and Science and Pharmacy in St. Louis on Wednesday.
The Tiger women battled hard on Sunday, but the Wildcats couldn’t be stopped on the offensive end.
Culver-Stockton struck first in the 11th minute on a pass from Savannah Stauffer to Alayna Chandler-Guti, who sneaked behind the Tiger back line.
The Wildcats struck for a second time in the 23rd minute as Maja Jansen connected with Rachel Lacobellis to increase the lead to 2-0.
Their first half scoring wasn’t done yet though as Anyssa Prieto scored the Wildcats’ third goal of the night off an assist from McKenna Little. They would go into the locker room with a 3-0 lead.
In the second half, the Tiger defense was clicking.
Iowa Wesleyan narrowly missed an opportunity to make it 3-1 as Bella Goodson’s shot was saved by Culver-Stockton goalkeeper Mackenzie Frizzell.
With continued offensive woes for the Tigers, the Wildcats were able to open up the scoring once again late in the match.
They would find the back of the net three times in the final 20 minutes, scoring in the 74th, 83rd and 86th to make it a 6-0 ballgame.
Iowa Wesleyan was out shot by the Wildcats 18-5, with Culver-Stockton putting 14 shots on goal to the Tigers’ three.
Bella Goodson and Desire’ Adams both finished with one shot for Iowa Wesleyan. Cheleena Squibb had eight saves on the day.
With the loss, the Tigers drop to 1-3 on the season.
The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, September 14 against Cornell.
