In 2018, the Iowa Wesleyan men's soccer team made history by being the first Tiger athletic team to qualify for the SLIAC tournament. One year later, it's almost time for the Tiger men to get back on the field and see if they can do it again.
IW has 20 games on their 2019 schedule, 10 nonconference games in August and September and 10 conference games in October.
The Tigers will begin their season in Pella when they travel to Central College for a date with the Dutch on Friday, Aug. 30. The Tigers won a 2-1 overtime game at Central last year.
IW have four road games in the first 10 days of September. The Tigers travel to Coe College on Sept. 2, Hannibal-LaGrange on Sept. 4, Mt. Mercy on Sept. 7 and Wheaton College on Sept. 10.
The 2018 squad played against Mt. Mercy, Coe and HLGU, going 2-1 in those games. The Tigers beat Coe 4-1, lost to Mt. Mercy 2-1, and played HLGU to a 1-1 draw.
IW will open their home schedule on Sept. 14 against Cornell College. The Tigers fell 2-1 against Cornell on Aug. 18.
IW will play three out of their last four September games on the road, hosting Monmouth College on the 18th. The Tigers' final non conference game will be on Oct. 2 at Simpson College.
The Tigers will begin their SLIAC journey against Blackburn College on Oct. 5, at home. Blackburn finished last in the conference last season, going 1-17 overall and 0-9 in league play. That included a 4-1 loss at the hands of IW.
The Tigers will play two of the other three SLIAC tournament teams from 2018 on the road. IW will travel to Webster on Oct. 9, host Spalding on Oct. 17 and hit the road to play Greenville on Oct. 26. In 2018, the Tigers defeated Spalding 2-1 in the conference tournament semifinals and lost 1-0 to Greenville in the SLIAC championship.
The 2019 season will end at home against MacMurray, much like it did in 2018. In that 2018 game, IW defeated MacMurray 4-0 to clinch the University's first ever SLIAC tournament berth.
