Things went south for the Iowa Wesleyan soccer teams in their return to East Lake Park on Tuesday evening. The Tiger women fell 11-0, and the men dropped their game 2-0 to knock them out of the coveted top four.
The IW women had their hands full with first-place Webster, who came into the game 7-0 in SLIAC play. The Gorloks showed off their talents early and often.
Webster scored nine goals in the first half, the first of which coming 32 seconds in the game. Melissa Kasper had a hat trick in the first half for the Gorloks, and Savannah Page had two goals.
The Gorloks scored just two more goals in the second half, but the Tiger women couldn't muster enough shots to see one bounce in.
Grace Alongi was the only player to get a shot off in the game for IW. Destiny Colon faced 24 shots on goal and 13 saves.
The Tiger men gave up both goals in the first half. Webster's Tucker Hively snuck one over goalkeeper Chris Rimmer's head late in the 13th minute, and Webster's Isaac Pearson scored on a header in the 30th minute.
Fabian Arvizu led the IW men with three shots on goal. Francisco Saldana had two shots on goal, and Mariano Mateo and Hugo Bonilla finished with one apiece.
Rimmer faced seven shots on the night and saved five shots.
The IW women fell to 3-10 overall and 1-6 in the conference. The men are 6-11-1 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
The Tiger men can still make it in to the top four if they win their two remaining games and get a little help. IW is currently tied for fifth at 4-3 with Principia. Fontbonne is 5-3 but still has to play Webster.
The Tigers have a tough game of their own on Saturday, Oct. 27, at first-place Spalding. The men's game starts at 2 p.m., with the women's preceding it at 12 p.m.
