MT. PLEASANT — After an abundance of trips away from home, the Iowa Wesleyan Softball team hosted its first home game on Tuesday night in a scheduled doubleheader against the Mustangs of Mount Mercy University.
It was a tough outing for the Tigers, as they fell in game one before rain put a halt on game two.
The Tigers couldn’t get anything going at the plate against the Mustangs in game one.
Kara Krieger finished with Iowa Wesleyan’s sole hit in game one. Krieger would finish the game 1-3 at the plate.
Haiden Molter pitched three innings for the Tigers and struck out two batters during her time on the mound.
In game two, the Tigers struck first. Iowa Wesleyan quickly put two runs on the board, but Mount Mercy came back with a vengeance.
By the third inning, the Mustangs had flipped the script and now held a 7-2 lead over the Tigers.
Iowa Wesleyan could never make up the ground and Mount Mercy continued to pour it on at the plate, building as much as a 12-2 lead before the Tigers got two runs back cutting the lead to 12-4.
The weather was not on the Tigers side though as the rain intervened.
Iowa Wesleyan will be back in action on Friday, April 8 against Bacone College and Haskell Indian Nations in the CAC Classic in Nevada, Missouri.
