IW splits doubleheader
Tigers get a win and loss in back-to-back against Saint Xavier

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team faced off against Saint Xavier University in the first two games of a three-game series on Friday.
The Tigers split the doubleheader with the Cougars, falling in the first game, 15-1, but winning the second, 5-3.
In the first of the two games, the Tigers struggled to get anything going, while the Cougars poured it on.
Iowa Wesleyan’s David Amaya scored the Tigers sole run in the opening contest. The Tigers were held scoreless before Amaya sent a ball deep over the left field fence.
Amaya was 2-2 at the plate in game one, hitting a single along with his home run. Cristian Cordero, Corbin Broeker and Dominic Gerace all finishing the first contest 1-3.
The Tigers got it figured out in game two. Iowa Wesleyan was able to get on the board first and never trailed.
Sage Bonner was able to get across home plate following an error by Saint Xavier in the second inning. Broeker then scored on a wild pitch to give Iowa Wesleyan a 2-0 lead.
Saint Xavier got two runs back in the fourth inning, but Iowa Wesleyan was quick to answer back. Riley Rankin hit an RBI single scoring Carlos Vicente and Gabe Hernandez connected on a double to score Froymer Ortega increasing the lead, 4-2, heading into the fifth inning.
The Tigers added another run in the seventh inning with a Phillip Guerrero RBI single, scoring Amaya.
Guerrero finished 2-4 at the plate, with two singles and an RBI.
Vicente also finished 2-4, with two singles.
Luis Ayesa pitched 6.2 innings for Iowa Wesleyan and picked up a victory.
Iowa Wesleyan will be back in action on Tuesday, April 5 in Mt. Pleasant against Viterbo University.
