IW swept by Kansas Wesleyan
The Tigers were defeated in a doubleheader against the Coyotes

SALINA, KANSAS — It was a tough weekend for the Iowa Wesleyan Baseball team as the Tiger lost both games to the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes in a weekend doubleheader.
The Tigers started out on the right foot. Sage Bonner got Iowa Wesleyan on the board in the first inning following a left field double, allowing Phillip Guerrero to cross home plate.
Cristian Cordero added to the Tigers lead with a sacrifice fly to deep left to sending David Amaya home for a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first, the Coyotes got themselves on the board with one run.
Amaya continued his proficient day sending the ball over the left field wall for a one run home run in the top of the fifth, increasing the Tiger lead to 3-1.
The two point lead wouldn’t be enough for Iowa Wesleyan to hold onto the win as Kansas Wesleyan went on to tie the game in the sixth and scored the eventual game winning run in the eighth.
In game two, Iowa Wesleyan was down big early, 6-0. The Tigers clawed back with a Gabriel Hernandez single, which scored Cordero. Julian Figueroa also singel to score Froymer Ortega, cutting the lead to 6-2 heading into the bottom of the third.
Kansas Wesleyan added another run in the third, but the Tigers matched it with a run of their own in the fourth with Amaya crossing home plate off an Ortega double.
The final run for the Tigers came in the sixth when Derek Marrufo scored of an Coyote botched throw. Iowa Wesleyan trailed 7-4 and it would be able to overcome the deficit.
Javier Rivera was efficient on the mound, pitching five scoreless inning along with seven strikeouts.
Iowa Wesleyan will be back on field on Feb. 26 in Winfield, Kansas when they take on Southwestern College.
