MT. PLEASANT - The Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team took game one from Greenville on Tuesday night but the visiting Greenville Panthers took the last three to beat the Tigers 23-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-14.
Greenville came into the match 3-0 in conference, putting the pressure on IW. The Tigers answered the call in the first set, capitalizing on eight Panther errors to sneak past 25-23.
The Panthers cut down on the errors in the last three sets, however. Greenville made just 11 errors total in the last three games, and hit 21 percent in the close out set.
The Tigers were co-led in kills by Paige Kammerer and Lida Landre, who each had nine. Ariel Smale had eight kills and Anna Leidl finished with seven.
Smale finished the night with 20 assists and 11 digs. Jenna Murphy led the squad with 23 digs.
The Tigers made just four service errors on the night and finished with three aces. Kammerer, Murphy and Grace Thomas each had one ace.
IW is now 7-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play. They'll host their 'pink out” game against Fontbonne University on Saturday, Oct. 4. Fontbonne comes into that game 1-13 overall and 1-4 in league play.
