MT. PLEASANT – The Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team attempted to knock off SLIAC-leading Westminster on Tuesday night at home, but the Blue Jays were too much for the hosting Tigers. Westminster swept IW 25-16, 25-15, 26-24.
The Tigers were held to a hitting percentage of just eight percent by the favored Blue Jays. Westminster hit 25 percent, and finished the night with 41 kills to IW's 19.
Lida Landre led the Tiger offense with seven kills in the loss. Anna Leidl had four kills. Paige Kammerer and Grace Thomas had three kills apiece, and Ariel Smale finished with two.
Smale led the way with 11 assists, and also added 11 digs to her stat line. Jenna Murphy was the team-leader in digs, with 15. Kammerer had six assists and seven digs.
IW had six serving aces and only four errors on the night. Landre and Murphy finished with two aces apiece. Kammerer and Jaden Streeter each had one.
The Tigers fell to 7-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play. They'll have three SLIAC games this weekend, all at Greenville University. They'll play Greenville (10-7, 5-1) tonight (Friday) and face both Westminster (9-6, 7-1) and Principia (4-11, 1-5) on Saturday, Oct. 12.
