IW volleyball team splits at home quad

MT. PLEASANT - The Iowa Wesleyan vollyeball team took one of two at its SLIAC home quad on Saturday. The Tigers won in four sets against Eureka College and lost in four against MacMurray College.
IW took the first set against IW 25-20. The Tigers bounced back with a 25-14 win in the second set, but the Red Devils won set three, 25-14 and set four, 26-24.
Lida Landre led the Tigers with 17 kills in the win. Ariel Smale had 12 kills and tallied 20 assists.
Paige Kammerer lead the Tigers with 23 assists, and also finished with 12 digs. Jenna Murphy had a team-leading 20 digs.
IW had 10 service aces in the win. Kammerer led the way with four. Landre had two. Smale, Murphy and Grace Thomas each had one.
The Tigers dropped the first two sets against MacMurray, falling 25-21 and 25-20. IW came back to win the third set 25-17, but the Highlanders won the fourth set 25-22.
Landre went off for 20 kills in the loss against MacMurray. The 37 total kills helped her scoop up Offensive Player of the Week honors in the SLIAC.
Smale had 27 assists and 16 digs in the MacMurray loss, both of which led the team. Kammerer had 16 assists and 14 digs, and Murphy finished with 10 digs.
IW had seven aces against MacMurray. Smale had three. Murphy finished with two, and both Thomas and Breanna Mettler had one.
The Tigers moved to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play after the split. They were back in non-conference play on Tuesday night at Faith Baptist Bible College. That result will be in a future edition of The Union.
