IW women drop conference opener

WESTMINSTER, Mo. - The Iowa Wesleyan women opened up conference play on Wednesday night at Westminster. The Blue Jays had too much offense early on for the Tigers to handle as Westminster ran away with a 78-55 win.
It was all Wesminster early. The Blue Jays outscored IW 18-7 in the first quarter and 26-9 in the second to take a 44-16 lead.
IW did a much better job offensively in the second half. The Tigers outscored Wesminster in both of the last two quarters, taking the third period 20-18 and the fourth period 19-16.
Darby Massner scored 15 points in the second half and finished the game with a team-leading 21 points and 11 rebounds. Allie Massner was the second leading scorer with nine points.
Da'Jaah Swolley had eight points in the loss, going 3-5 from the field and 2-2 from three-point land. Jordanne Mickey had seven points. Harriet Fowler finished with five, and Emily Hammel had two.
The Tigers fell to 0-4 on the year and 0-1 in the conference. They'll face Webster University on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 1 p.m.
