IW women's soccer gets first win
Tigers berate Lyon College for first victory of the season

St. Louis, MO — Iowa Wesleyan women’s soccer grabbed it first win of the season Wednesday evening with a dominating victory over Lyon College.
Six different names got into the scoring column as the Tigers routed the Fighting Scots 6-0.
Both teams came into the matchup looking for their first win and Iowa Wesleyan did not disappoint.
Just over six minutes in, Baylee Alvarado was able to edge the Lyon goalkeeper on a pass from Laura Rincon to give the Tiger’s a 1-0 early lead.
That was just the beginning of the onslaught.
In the 18th minute, Bella Goodson was the second Tiger to find the back of the net, making it 2-0.
Just under 10 minutes later in the 27th minute, Izela Avalos was able to put the finishing touches on a corner kick to increase the Iowa Wesleyan lead to 3-0.
Not three minutes later, Giovana Pedrassani hit Jaycee Page with a through ball which ended in the back of the net, sealing a 4-0 first half for the Tigers.
The scoring outbursts didn’t end in the first, as Jacqueline Campos put the ball passed the keeper in the 53rd minute to make it a 5-0 ballgame.
Desire’ Adams got in on the action three minutes later as she drew a penalty inside the box and was able to slip the ball into the net for the sixth and final goal of the night.
The Tigers finished the game with 18 shots, 14 on goal. Campos led the Tiger offense with four shots, three shots on goal, and one goal. Cheleena Squibb finished with two saves.
Lyon finished with just five shots in the game, three on goal. Allison Byars led Lyon College with two shots. Rhyan Hioki led the Fighting Scots defense with six saves.
The women rebounded after a loss to Clarke University, 3-1, on Sunday. The men fell 3-1 to Clarke as well.
The Tiger women improve to 1-2 on the season. On Sunday, September 11th, they will travel to Canton, Missouri to take on the Culver-Stockton College at 1 p.m.
