IW wrestling victorious in final home dual
The Tigers defeated Saint Ambrose University

MT. PLEASANT — The Iowa Wesleyan men’s wrestling team competed in its final home dual of the season on Monday, defeating Saint Ambrose University, 30-23.
The dual wasn’t a cake walk for the Tigers as they found themselves down early, but bounced back late to grab a win.
Brendon Lunsford started Iowa Wesleyan off on the right note, pinning his opponent in just over two minutes in the 285 pound match.
The Tigers would lose the next four matches. Kyle Thibodeaux fell in his 125 pound match by decision, 8-3. Ty Broussard was defeated by tech fall, 25-8, at 133. At 141, Will Weidman was pinned and Francisco Mendez lost by major decision, 15-5 at 149. The Tigers trailed 18-6.
At 157, Brent Ward got the Tigers back on track with a pin in just under seven minutes. The Tigers then gained back the lead, 24-18, following two forfeits at 165 and 174. Jesus Diaz and Caelen Shannon took the victories.
Dominique Morris, 184, was the last Tiger to face an opponent. Morris was defeated by tech fall, 17-1, bringing the dual to within one point with the Tigers leading 24-23.
The final match of the night was at 194. Elias Cordero took the victory by forfeit, sealing the Iowa Wesleyan win.
Iowa Wesleyan will not be back on the mat until Feb. 9 when they travel to Des Moines to take on Grand View University.
