The Iowa Wesleyan College men?s soccer team used a big second half to defeat Culver-Stockton (Mo.) College 3-0 Thursday afternoon in a non-conference match at East Lake Park.
The Tigers scored all three of their goals in the second half to get their second win of the season, improving to 2-5 overall.
Following a scoreless first half, goalkeeper Troy Osborne boomed a punt past midfield and down to Chris Matthews. Matthews found Max Tefo going to the goal, and Tefo finished the play for the first goal of the game in the 49th minute of the second half.
Tefo scored again on an assist from Walton Ponce to make it 2-0. Just over five minutes later, Kris Dolinsky curled a free kick inside the left post for his first goal of the season and a 3-0 lead.
The Tigers continued to pressure in the final minutes, with Dolinsky, Jason Gonzalez and substitute Jonathan Nicely keeping the heat on against the Culver-Stockton team.
Osborne got the win in goal for the Tigers, making one save after he came on for Mirko Drsysga, who started the match and made three saves before leaving with a thigh injury. Sergio Hernandez made nine saves for the Wildcats, who dropped to 1-6-1 this year.
Iowa Wesleyan will look for its third win of the season on Sunday when it faces Cornell College as part of IWC?s homecoming weekend. The men?s match will begin at 3 p.m.
