IWC soccer falls in pair of homecoming matches
On Saturday, the Iowa Wesleyan women?s soccer team took on the Clarke University Crusaders as part of Wesleyan?s homecoming festivities. The Tigers had a tough day, going scorless as they fell to the Crusaders, 7-0.

On Saturday, the Iowa Wesleyan women?s soccer team took on the Clarke University Crusaders as part of Wesleyan?s homecoming festivities. The Tigers had a tough day, going scorless as they fell to the Crusaders, 7-0.
Two Tigers, Hannah McElroy and Kelly Wetherald, combined for the team?s offensive effort, taking a total of just eight shots against the Crusaders? keeper.
Wesleyan keeper Kaytlyn Owens faced 20 shots in the net, making 13 saves on the day. Owens now leads the country with 112 saves on the year, the most by any United States Collegiate Athletic Association keeper.
The Tigers are now 3-10 on the season. They travel to William Penn Wednesday for a 5 p.m. game.
The Tigers men?s team also played Saturday, taking on NCAA Division II Truman State University. The men fought hard, but fell in overtime to the Bulldogs, 3-2.
Chris Matthews continued his outstanding season, scoring both Tiger goals on the afternoon. His season total is now 10, which ties him for seventh most in the country. Both of Matthews? goals were assisted by Caio Da Costa as the Tigers took a 2-1 lead at the half.
A quick goal by the Bulldogs to open the half tied the game at two. The score was deadlocked at two for the remainder of the game and into overtime.
The Bulldogs scored in the sixth minute of overtime on a goal by Andy Chapman, his third of the day.
The Tigers had 18 shots on the day while the Bulldogs had 15. Wesleyan keeper Brett Broderson made 12 saves in the net.
The men head to William Penn on Wednesday to play after the women?s team. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
