IWC soccer falls to Culver-Stockton
HANNIBAL, Mo. ? The IWC men?s soccer team dropped its season opener at Culver-Stockton College yesterday in a double-overtime battle that ended, 3-2, on a penalty kick.

HANNIBAL, Mo. ? The IWC men?s soccer team dropped its season opener at Culver-Stockton College yesterday in a double-overtime battle that ended, 3-2, on a penalty kick.
The Wildcats struck first in the match and went into the second half leading, 1-0, but the Tigers answered with an unassisted goal by Mexime Tefo.
Culver Stockton regained the lead within 10 minutes to go ahead 2-1, but Caio Da Costa tied the game once more with another IWC goal, assisted by Walton Ponce.
The match remained tied until a penalty kick by the Wildcats? Jacob Schierding gave the contest to Culver-Stockton in the second overtime.
The Tigers had nine shots on goal, led by Chris Matthews with three. Costa and Tefo each had two. IWC keeper Brett Broderson faced 12 shots by Culver-Stockton. The men play on Saturday at East Lake Park against Sterling College (1-1).
The women?s soccer team also played at Culver-Stockton Tuesday and fell to the undefeated Wildcats by an 8-0 score.
After the first half, the Tigers had taken just four shots and came away with nothing. The Wildcats went into the half leading by three.
After a quick score to open the second, the Tigers found themselves down by four. The Tigers? goalkeeper, Kaytlyn Owens, faced a total of 20 shots, while Wildcats keepers defended only five throughout the game.
The IWC offensive attack was led by Hannah McElroy who had three shots. Savanna Blair and Kelly Wetherald each took one shot.
The Tigers remain winless and scoreless but look to change that at Greenville College (0-1-1) next Tuesday.
