RIVERSIDE - It wasn't a perfect day for the area's small school boys' golfers in Riverside on Wednesday, but one player was able to steal the spotlight. Winfield-Mt. Union's Jarod Kadel will represent Henry County at next week's state meet.
Kadel snuck in to state with a final stroke count of 84, making it into the top three by one stroke. On the flip side, teammate Nolan Ross finished one stroke out of state, with an 85.
W-MU shot 361 as a team, which was 10 shots away from advancing to state. Graham Hagge shot a 95. Brady Loyd finished at 97, and both Noah Freeman and Jacob Kongable finished at 98.
New London's Clayton Phillips was unable to make a return trip to state in his sophomore year. He finished the tournament with a final stroke count of 90.
