Tony Johnson officially submitted his resignation on Monday night during a Highland School Board meeting.
Johnson, who currently serves as Highland?s athletic director, head football coach and transportation director, as well as helping with junior high baseball in addition to being a physical education and health teacher, will be accepting the seventh through 12th-grade principal position at Easton Valley in Preston after this school year.
?The decision was very difficult,? Johnson said. ?I?d been with Highland for 14 year in many different arenas as far as coaching baseball, football, track and all that. I built a lot of great relationships with students both past and present. I?m going to miss working with the kids every day.?
Over the last 14 years, Johnson has seen time as the head baseball coach (four years), assistant track coach (five years) as well as working as an assistant girls? basketball coach and assistant baseball coach at Lone Tree for a number of years.
Johnson officially took over as the head coach of the football team in the fall of 2009.
Johnson said that his time at Highland has prepared him for his next role.
?I grew as a teacher, I grew as a coach and I grew as a professional here at Highland,? Johnson said. ?The community and staff I worked with and the students allowed me to grow. It would never have happened if we didn?t have awesome kids. It made you feel like you didn?t really have a job. It was a great atmosphere.?
Johnson graduated from Easton Valley (formerly Preston High School) in 1995.
