FAIRFIELD — Fairfield setter Maddie Jones just finished a stellar senior year of volleyball, and now, two months later, she has made her college choice.
Jones signed her letter of intent on Wednesday to join the Southeastern Community College volleyball team next school year.
“Obviously, it’s close to home, and I really like Coach (Michelle) Glass,” Jones said. “A lot my teammates at SCC will be from the local area, so that’s a big thing.”
Jones is coming off a senior season that saw her dish out an incredible 633 assists. She also finished the year with 149 digs, 34 kills and a team-leading 51 service aces.
Jones and the Trojans have won two-straight Southeast Conference titles.
“It makes me really proud,” Jones said. “That has always been one of those goals of mine. I just really want Fairfield volleyball to be good. I know a lot of people look up to me, and the team, and I just really want to be a good role model.”
Along with playing volleyball, Jones plans on major in elementary education when she gets to school.
“I want to be an elementary teacher,” Jones said. “My mom is a principal, so hopefully I can come back and work in her building one day.”
Jones says she doesn’t know if she will play volleyball after her two-year stint at SCC, but that she’s ready to become a Blackhawk for the next two years.
“I just really love volleyball,” Jones said.
