Mt. Pleasant boys? JV basketball
The boys? JV team improved to 5-1 with a 52-45 win over Keokuk on Friday night, Dec. 9. ?It took another good second half to get the job finished, but the guys made plays when they needed to, and that says a lot about their perserverance and determination,? Coach Tyler Rodgers said.
Dustin Amos led all scorers with 23 points and Zach Mulford dropped in nine. Amos and Tyler Pace each pulled down 12 rebounds. Amos and Trey Magnani both had three thefts.
Earlier in the season, the boys also earned wins over Central Lee, 70-38, in a sophomore-only game on Dec. 8, and earned a 59-57 come-from-behind win against Cedar Rapids Prairie on Dec. 6.
?(Against Central Lee), Nike Phillips and Brady Richards came off the bench and were hustling all over the court,? Rodgers said.
Mulford lead all scorers with 22 points connecting on four three-pointers in the first half. Amos added 17 points followed by Magnani?s 11.
Pace added a double-double with 10 points and rebounds. Amos and Zach Schmitz each had eight rebounds. Magnani, Pace, and Colten Schinstock all had four steals and Magnani added five assists.
In the Cedar Rapids Prairie game, Magnani scored 25 of his game-high 31 points in the second half, most in the fourth quarter, to help lift the Panthers to a win. Amos and Paced score eight and six points respectively. Pace had nine rebounds, while Amos and Schmitz had seven apiece. Magnani also had three assists and five steals.
The boys? next game is Friday night in Ft. Madison, starting at about 6:15 p.m.
Mt. Pleasant girls? JV basketball
The Mt. Pleasant girls? JV team played back to back road games on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 8 and 9.
On Thursday night the Panthers squared off against Central Lee.
?Our press was able to get them going a little faster than they wanted, and we were able to force quite a few turnovers that way,? Coach Nathan Lange said. ?We won the game by 32 points.?
Leslie Taylor had 13 points in only two quarters of playing. Natalie Myers and Kaitlyn Johnson added eight apiece, while Hannah Becker and Kelsey Smith finished with seven.
On Friday, the girls played Keokuk. ?This was a very close game,? Lange said. ?We had the lead by five at halftime, but let that lead slip away, losing by four: 52-48.?
Kaitlyn Johnson had 13 points. Natalie Ita and Mary Wester chipped in 10 apiece.
The girls play again on Friday, hosting Ft. Madison at 4:45 p.m.
Mt. Pleasant freshmen boys? basketball
The freshmen boys' basketball team from Mt. Pleasant played Thursday, Dec. 8, at Iowa City West, and the ?A? team lost by a score of 57-19.
The game was 36-8 by halftime in Iowa City West?s favor.
Ben Canby scored seven for the Panthers. Kolby Raymond added six, Tyler Ruby put up four and Brady Anderson scored two points.
In the ?B? game, the Panthers were on the losing end of a 20-12 decision.
Mt. Pleasant split the scoring evenly, with Brad Martin, Matt Steffens, Sam Van De Berg, Brady Anderson, Jerome Norwood and Jared Batty each scoring two points.
The team will play again Friday at Ft. Madison, starting at 4:45 p.m.
