FAIRFIELD — Fairfield girls basketball lost its second Southeast Conference head-to-head against Keokuk on Thursday night.
With the 68-27 win, the Chiefs complete the season sweep of the Trojans.
It ended up being a tough shooting night for the Trojans as they were held to six points or less in three of the four quarters.
The scoring struggles started early, as Fairfield put up just one point in the first six minutes of action.
Keokuk took advantage through that span, building a 14-1 lead.
Fairfield went down by as much as 18-4 before Emma Metcalf scored a layup with two seconds left to make it an 18-6 ball game after one.
The Trojans never had an answer as the second quarter turned out to be their worst of the night.
Fairfield nearly went the whole quarter without scoring a point. It wasn’t until 27 second remained that Faith Jones scored a pair to get the Trojans on the board.
By that time, Keokuk had amassed a 35-8 lead before making it 37-8 at the half.
Out of the break, Fairfield put together its best scoring spurt of the game, but Keokuk continued to pour it in itself. The Trojans scored a team high 15 points in third quarter, but the Chiefs scored their game high as well, 25 points.
Altogether, the Trojans were outscored 31-19 in the second half.
Faith Jones led the Trojans with 13 points and nine rebounds. Grace Lyon added six points and Maddy Martin had two.
The Trojans are still searching for their first win of the season with the loss. They drop to 0-18.
