GRINNELL — At Oakland Acres Golf Club Monday, something happened in the South Iowa Cedar League that had not occurred since 1996.
The Keota boys golf team won the league championship.
The title chase went down to the wire with the Eagles edging English Valleys by two strokes.
“It was a very exciting ending,” Keota coach Rod Hill said.
Luke Hammen paced the Eagles victory with runner-up medalist honors, posting a round of 80. Ethan Kupka of HLV won with a 74.
Cole Kindred was fifth overall with a score of 86. Keota teammates Caden Sprouse and Colten Clarahan matched the other’s round of 89, which tied for ninth and Max Johnson carded a 94. Sawyer Stout had a 96.
Keota will lose seniors Hammen and Johnson, but only Clarahan will be a senior next year. Kindred is a freshman and Stout and Sprouse are sophomores.
