Keota edged in league match

Area volleyball action from Thursday and Saturday saw Mid-Prairie face three ranked teams in a tournament, while Keota went five sets in league play as did Highland and Hillcrest.
Mid-Prairie have busy week
The Golden Hawks lost a River Valley Conference Thursday home match to Monticello (14-8) 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 25-19.
Saturday at Clear Creek-Amana's tournament, Mid-Prairie lost to the host Clippers, who are ranked 11th in Class 4A with a 24-4 record, 21-13, 21-14, lost to Class 3A No. 5 Union (28-6) 21-8, 21-11 and lost to Class 4A No. 4 North Scott (15-3) 21-7, 21-5.
Huskies hound Ravens
RIVERSIDE - Hillcrest lost a North Division match Thursday at Highland 25-18, 14-25, 24-26, 25-19, 15-10.
Yani Gutierrez and Norah Yoder combined for 20 assists and Hillcrest teammate Esther Hughes spiked 13 kills. Hillcrest had 127 digs with Evelyn Gerber notching 33, Gutirrez 29, Grace Miller 22, Malia Sedlacek 21 and Yoder 19. Sophie Marshall had three blocks.
Highland got 11 blocks from Carson Mellinger and seven each from Jalynn Brown and Jenna Sands. Sarah Burton has 16 digs. Dani Laughlin put up 29 assists as Kayla Cerny put down 13 kills.
Eagles edged
KEOTA - The Eagles (2-12) lost a South Iowa Cedar League match that was a barn burner. Visiting BGM (2-14) won 25-22, 16-25, 25-21, 22-25, 17-15.
Makenzie Jackson's 11 assists helped Taylor Kindred connect on 12 kills and Lindsey Imhoff eight for Keota. Katelyn Swantz had two blocks and Imhoff 16 digs. Macie McDonald had 13 digs.
