Keota girls basketball got its season off to the start it was hoping for. The Eagles tipped off 2025-26 with two wins at the 4 Corners Shootout.
The event, held Friday and Saturday, featured both Keota and Highland as well as Iowa Valley, Lone Tree. The Eagles picked up a 73-51 home win over Highland on Friday and beat Lone Tree 56-46 on the road Saturday.
Despite being outscored 22-21 in the fourth quarter, Keota held Highland to just four points in the second quarter to pull away. Sophomore Cameron Haifley led the way with 26 points. Emily Conger added 17 and Kennedy Jackson scored 11.
Haifley matched her offensive output on the other side of the ball. She recorded eight of the Eagles 16 steals and eight of the team’s 12 blocks.
Kamryn Fink led the way for Highland in the defeat. The sophomore finished with 19 points and added eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block.
Keota took the momentum from Friday’s win into its road matchup against Lone Tree. The Eagles trailed 17-13 after one quarter of play, but outscored the Lions 16-10 in both the second and third quarters to pull out a 10-point victory.
Haifley led the way again and was the sole player in double figures for the Eagles with 18 points, along with five rebounds, five assists and a pair of blocks. Karley Greiner added nine points and six rebounds.
Highland rebounded from its defeat to Keota with a 60-13 beat down of Iowa Valley on Saturday. The Huskies racked up 24 steals and held Iowa Valley to just 1 of 8 from 3-point range.
Four of Highland’s five starters finished the game in double figures led by Hailey Brun’s 15 points. Katelyn Thomann had 11 while Fink and Kinzie Ruess each had double doubles with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
“We were able to get some pressure on them and hit a couple of shots right away and get going from the start,” Highland coach Jody Fink said in a postgame report. “Nice night getting four girls in double digits and another close. The girls did a nice job of sharing the ball and moving it but that is something we need to continue to work on.”
The Huskies (1-1) have an opportunity to get their second win with a matchup at Lone Tree on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at Lone Tree High School.
Keota (2-0) will look to keep its hot start going after Thanksgiving break when it faces Belle Plaine. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at Keota High School.
