The Keota baseball team lost its first game this season Wednesday.
Eagles clipped on road
The Keota baseball team dropped a 2-0 decision while the softball team lost 11-10 at South Iowa Cedar League foe HLV.
The softball team led 3-0, 9-3 and 9-7. The game was tied at 10 before HLV scored in the bottom of the sixth for the winning run.
The baseball team gave up a run in the fifth and one in the sixth to lose to last year's league champs.
Brady Duwa had a double and Caleb Waterhouse had a single for the only two Keota hits. Colten Clarahan threw all six innings, yielding three hits, two walks, eight strikeouts and one earned run.
Ravens grounded by Comets
Hillcrest lost at home and on the road to Cardinal in Southeast Iowa Super Conference cross-divisional games.
Kassidy Verrips tossed a one-hitter to get the 10-0 softball home win in five innings. She walked two and struck out nine. Maddie Cloke, Rachel Lewman and Ava Ferrrell each had two hits. Lewman had two doubles and two runs batted in.
The baseball game saw Cardinal score three runs in the top of the sixth inning for a 12-0 road victory.
Landon Becker, Peyton Johnson, Blaine Bryant and Dawson Lewis each had two hits in the victory. Becker gave up four hits, one hit batter but no walks with five strikeouts in the six-inning victory.
London Schrock went 2-for-2 for Hillcrest.
