BELLE PLAINE - The small but mighty Keota track teams were at Belle Plaine last week for the 2022 South Iowa Cedar League track and field meet. The Eagles score just five combined points.
The Keota girls finished in 12th place, netting all five Eagle points on the day. Colfax-Mingo went for 140 points to take the conference title.
Four of the Eagles’ five points came in the girls’ shuttle hurdle relay event. Keota’s quartet of Izzi Chalupa, Grace Conger, Lainey Swanson and Kimberly Clarahan won the opening heat and took fifth place overall with a final time of 1 minute, 21.64 seconds.
Keota’s other point also came in the relays. The 4X100 relay team of Clarahan, Ava Greiner, Conger and Chalupa won their heat and took eighth overall, with a time of 58.14 seconds.
Keota’s lone boy in action was Ashton Thomas. He competed in three events but did not score.
Thomas’ best time was in the 100-meter dash. He finished the race in 21st with a time of 14.83 seconds.
Lynnville-Sully won the boys’ team championship with 128 points. English Valleys finished just nine points back for second.
