Keota softball team eliminated

MORAVIA — A slow start doomed Keota in the Class 1A Region 8 softball quarterfinals on Friday night.

Moravia’s bats were on fire early in what would turn into a 12-0 four-inning affair. The Mohawks scored seven runs in the first inning and four in the second to jump out to an 11-0 lead.

After a scoreless Keota third, the Eagles held Moravia in the bottom of the inning to avoid a 12-run mercy rule. However, Keota didn’t score in the fourth, and the Mohawks were able to score the winning run in the bottom half of the inning.

Keota picked up only three hits against Moravia starter Alexa Bedford, who pitched a complete-game shut out.

Moravia earned a shot at Twin Cedars in the regional quarterfinals on Wednesday. Keota finished the season 0-17.
