KEOTA — Keota basketball was in action on Tuesday night with the Eagle boys and girls playing host to Montezuma.
It was an up and down night as a whole for Keota basketball as the boys kept their undefeated streak alive with a 55-51 victory, while the girls drop the seventh game in their last eight, 60-16.
In the boys’ contest it look as if Keota was going to run away with it early.
The Eagles played about as good as they could have in the opening frame, outscoring the Braves 21-3. That lead wouldn’t last forever, but it would be enough to win it.
Montezuma went on to outscore the Eagles in the next three quarters, 16-11, 16-12 and 16-11.
Despite losing those frames, the Eagles first quarter was just too much for the Braves to overcome. Keota led 32-19 at the half and 44-35 after three.
Sawyer Stout led Keota with 18 points. Cole Kindred added 11 points and seven rebounds. Evan Vittetoe finished with 10 points and nine boards. Billie Kindred ended with seven points and nine rebounds. Chase Haifley had four points, Tanner Waterhouse three and Aiden McGuire two.
In the girls’ matchup, Keota trailed just four, 12-8, after the opening quarter.
From then on out though, Montezuma took over. The Bravettes gave up just eight points over the following 24 minutes.
Montezuma won the second, 19-2, the third 20-6 and the fourth 9-0 on its way to the win.
Emily Conger led Keota with eight points. Grace Conger followed with four. Ava Greiner and Kimberly Clarahan both ended with two.
With the win, the Keota boys improve to 9-0 on the season. The girls drop to 1-8 with the loss.
