Keota suffers first loss

After starting the baseball season with five straight wins, Keota took its first loss Tuesday, but not without a fight, losing in 10 innings at Sigourney, 4-3.
Colton Clarahan, Bryce Greiner and Austin Waterhouse had two hits apiece.
The game was tied at 3-3 after the fourth inning. Waterhouse pitched the first 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts, four hits, three walks and one earned run. Clarahan pitched the final three innings, giving up the run with one out in the 10th. He fanned five with a walk and a hit.
The Eagles rebounded with a 9-7 win at Lynville Sully Wednesday that went eight innings.
Tyler Waterhouse pitched 6 1/3 innings, but Luke Hammen got the win in relief.
Greiner, Sam Sieren and Austin Waterhouse each had two hits.
The Eagles (6-1) host BGM today.
Highland 10, Cardinal 0
The Huskies improved to 3-1 Wednesday with a five-inning road win pitched by Jacob Leonard, who had eight strikeouts, three walks and allowed no hits. He also led the Huskies at the plate with three hits in three at-bats, connecting on two doubles.
West Burlington 12, Iowa Mennonite 2
IMS fell to 2-1 with a five-inning road loss.
Drew Baluveldt took the loss. Kobe Borntrager and London Schrock each batted in a run.
Mid-Prairie at 5-3
The Golden Hawks are 4-2 in the River Valley Conference after sweeping the visitors from Tipton Monday, 7-6 and 5-1.
Ashton Bush fanned eight, walked three and gave up two hits in five innings for the 5-1 win. Kayden Reinier whiffed two and gave up a run on two hits in two innings of relief. Cale Robertson went 2 for 4 with a double.
Reinier got the 7-6 win with two innings pitched with three Ks, a hit and a walk with one run allowed. Brad Tornow went five inning with seven strikeouts, a walk, three hits and two runs. Aidan Rath had two RBI.
The Hawks scored in the bottom of the seventh to win.
Columbus 7, Iowa Mennonite 6
In softball at Columbus Junction, with Emma Milder at bat in the bottom of the seventh inning, Libby White scored the winning run on a dropped third strike that was a passed ball.
'The girls played a great game and Emma pitched great,” Columbus coach Katie Coil said. 'She gave up a two-run home run to Suzanna Yoder in the second inning. She could have given up then but she fought back and pitched a great game.”
Michelle Diaz was 3 of 4 with a double. Columbus teammate Jobie Lekwa hit a triple. Grace Conwell and Kylee Wheeler each had an RBI on 2 of 4 batting with a double.
IMS pitcher Leah Bontrager struck out eight Wildcats.
