MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant senior Kellen Kohorst will be taking his skills to the next level.
Kohorst signed his letter of intent last week to attend and play football at St. Ambrose University in Davenport.
“I just wanted to look at culture, anv overall the university itself,” said Kohorst. “It had a lot of the values that I appreciated.”
Kohorst will be following in the footsteps of his older brother, Keegan, who went to St. Ambrose as well, and will be reuniting with high school teammate Payton Walker, who is currently in his freshman year with the Bees.
“It was just a super comfortable place,” said Kohorst. “Not too far from home, and I really enjoyed my time up there.”
Kohorst will be studying education at St. Ambrose, with plans to not only teach, but coach in the future.
“Really, I want to be a coach, and it’s a really nice leeway into being a coach,” Kohorst said. “It will probably be some sort of Social Studies or P.E.”
Kohorst joins a team that went 4-7 last fall. The bees were 3-3 in Heart of America Conference play.
Kohorst finished with 22 tackles this fall, including 5.5 tackles for a loss. He led the Panthers with two forced fumbles. As a team, Mt. Pleasant went 7-3 overall and 4-1 in district play, qualifying for the Class 3A playoffs.
