Kooiker seventh at Drake Relays

Thirteen local athletes traveled to Des Moines last week to compete in the prestigious Drake Relays with three 4x100 relay teams joining high jumper Landon Kooiker in the state's capitol.

Girls 4x100

Fairfield ran in heat 10, finishing sixth in their race and 87th overall with a time of 53.37. The Trojans were Jillian Dunlap, Alexis Jones, Carly Ferrell and Anna Dunlap. Van Buren was set up in heat 12 and finished sixth in their race with a time of 52.94, good for 76th overall. The Warriors that ran were Isabel Manning, Chloe Davidson, Madison Bartholomew and Grace Davidson.

Boys 4x100

Cardinal sent Griffin Greiner, Colby Aschenbrenner, Jarrett Greiner and Trey Albert to run in heat five with the Comets finishing fifth in their race and 33rd overall with a time of 44.66.

High jump

Trojan junior Landon Kooiker tied his friendly rival, Sam Beatty of Mt. Pleasant, when the pair both finished in seventh place after clearing jumps of 6'5. Kooiker cleared 6'1” and 6'3” on his first attempts and then took three attempts to register 6'5” before busting out with three failed jumps at 6'7”.
