A 4-3 barnburner didn?t go Fairfield?s way at the Dexter Soccer Complex Tuesday evening and the Trojans added one in the loss column against Southeast Conference opponent Fort Madison.
Pasha Bousquet scored all three goals for the Trojans to keep them in the game after Fort Madison put one in the net right out of the gate. Bousquet scored two goals in the first half, assisted by Jacob Lantz and Deep Shrestha, to cut the halftime deficit to 3-2.
?We just have a problem with being ready to play from the beginning,? said head coach Roeland Hekker. ?It was just a defensive and goalie error on the first one.?
Fairfield controlled the ball for much of the second half, but a penalty kick midway through gave the Bloodhounds their biggest advantage of the game at 4-2.
Several shots on goal were stopped by the Fort Madison goalkeeper before Bousquet finally broke through again with 11 minutes remaining. Shrestha played a perfect lob over the defense where he found Bousquet there to chip it over the goalkeepers arms from the top of the box to cut the lead back down to one.
