Laughlin leads Highland victory

Very few high school games were played Friday in the Union coverage area due to weather but there was a slate of results from Thursday.
Eagles grounded twice
In South Iowa Cedar League games Friday at Keota, the baseball team (1-2) dropped an 8-2 outcome to Lynnville-Sully while the softball team (0-3) lost 18-3 to the sixth-ranked (Class 1A) visitors.
Huskies split with Falcons
The visitors from Louisa-Muscatine, ranked second in Class 3A, took a 9-1 softball win at Highland Thursday while Highland baseball won at Louisa-Muscatine 19-2 in Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division play..
Abbi Stransky had two hits for Highland in the loss.
Bill Laughlin threw four innings in the win with four hits, a walk and five strikeouts and went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBI.
Mediapolis sinks Columbus
In SEISC North games Thursday, Mediapolis won a road softball game 8-6 in eight innings while ending a home baseball game early 12-0.
Columbus got two hits from Grace Conwell while Libby White allowed nine hits, six earned runs, five walks and five strikeouts in the loss.
Hillcrest falls to Lone Tree
The visiting Ravens (1-3) gave up two runs in the bottom of the seventh and lost 14-13 to the Lions (2-2) in baseball while the home standing Ravens (0-3) dropped an 11-0 softball decision.
Noah Miller, Eli Ours and London Schrock each had three hits for the Ravens.
Mid-Prairie drops pair
In River Valley Conference play, the No. 10 (Class 2A) Golden Hawks (2-2) lost a home baseball game, 14-7, and the softball team (0-2) was edged, 2-1, by Tipton.
Brad Tornow had a double and MP teammate Aidan Rath had two hits.
Myah Lugar struck out nine, gave up six hits, walked one and only allowed one earned run to suffer the loss. Lanie Bowlin went 1-for-3 with the lone RBI. Abbi Patterson and Jaselyn Robertson each had a hit.
