The power of Mother Nature once again affected the high school sports scene Saturday.
Mid-Prairie started its Class 2A District 6 game in Wellman an hour earlier that previously scheduled. The game still was not able to be completed due to lightning. The Golden Hawks trailed 3-0 in the fourth inning when it was called. It will resume Monday at 7 p.m.
Mid-Prairie saw the bases loaded against them after one run had scored in the first inning but got out of it with just another run scored with an inning-ending double play.
Iowa Mennonite School's Class 1A District 8 game was moved from Burlington Notre Dame to Kalona. Five Pekin batters had an at bat, but one pitch into the sixth, the umpire saw lightning and a delay was enforced. Eventually an 8:50 p.m. time was set for a restart, but the closest lightning yet seen then happened at 8:45 and a steady rain began. It will resume Monday at 7 p.m. with Pekin holding a 3-0 lead with one out in the top of the first inning.
Six Class 1A games will be resumed Monday as will five 2A games.
