Lightning strikes twice: Trojan boys tie Albia

Weather again decided to rear its ugly head Friday, and the Fairfield boys? tennis team had play suspended for the second time in 2012.

The Trojans had to settle for their second tie due to weather, this time against Albia at Fairfield Middle School courts. The Trojans were up 4-3 against the Blue Demons when lightning cut short play of No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, though the No. 2 team of Punj and Burnstedt was leading their meet-clinching match 6-0, 1-0.

Fairfield received three wins in singles play and one in doubles. Combined, Fairfield?s top two singles players dropped just two games as No. 1 Alexander Punj posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory and Sean Soupiset won 6-1, 6-1.

Senior Tommy Price grabbed the third win for Fairfield with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles. Price also joined forces with Soupiset at No. 1 doubles for a 6-2, 6-4 win.

Matt McCan and Mitziu Echeverria were tied 2-2 at No. 3 doubles when play was suspended.

The Trojans (5-2-2) open their final week of the regular season with a matchup at Burlington-Notre Dame Tuesday.
