Cash Pepper wins 3D competition

DES MOINES - Washington teams had two first-place finishes last weekend at the National Archery in Schools Program state meet in Des Moines and qualified eight archers for the national tournament May 7-9 in Louisville, Kentucky.
'There were 77 Washington archers who did an outstanding job at State this past weekend,” program director Kathy Stender said.
Archers earning a Top 10 finish are eligible to attend the Eastern Nationals.
The Lincoln Elementary School team earned first place in both the Bullseye and 3D competitions, registering the top team scores in school history.
The 3D team posted a total of 1,488, the top score among five elementary teams. The bullseye score of 3,052 was first among 11 teams.
Emma Helfrich placed seventh and Hannah Lipski placed ninth in Bullseye. Both registered a score of 264.
In 3D, Kayden Hall placed fifth (251), Lipski (251) placed sixth, Helfrich (250) and Liam Peterson (247) each placed seventh, and Braydon Clough (247) placed eighth.
The Washington High School team earned fourth place among 33 teams in Bullseye with Meghan Case (288) placing 10th among individuals. The team score was 3,379. The team also earned sixth place among 16 teams in 3D with Samantha Mellinger (283) placing 10th. The team score was 1,661.
The Washington Middle School team earned 11th place among 33 Bullseye teams with Cash Pepper (288) placing fifth. The team score was 3,222. The team placed eighth in 3D with 1,582 points with Cash Pepper (285) placing first.
Pepper had to win a shoot-off to take first place.

The Archery Awards Ceremony will be held March 25 at 6 p.m. in the Washington High School Auditorium.
