FORT MADISON — Fairfield got a slow start to its Southeast Conference volleyball match against the Fort Madison Bloodhounds Tuesday. The Trojans battled through the beginning drudgery until they prevailed for a 3-1 win.
The Trojans lost the first set 25-18, but head coach Diana Drish made some lineup changes for Set 2 and proceeded to win the next three sets 25-21, 25-18, 25-20.
Mallory Lyon and Macy Rayburn had four blocks apiece and Maggie Rayburn three.
"The Rayburns and Mallory Lyon were defensive weapons,“ Drish said. ”Kiya Robertson and Lilly Bergren led the defense, and Hannah Bergren’s ace serves came at the right time.“
Anna Dunlap led the Trojans with 10 kills, and the Rayburns combined for 17. Maddie Jones’ hustle produced 40 assists and 11 digs. Robertson had 14 digs, Lilly Bergren 17 and Hannah Bergren nine.
The timely aces Drish described of Hannah Bergren’s numbered seven, and Robertson had four.
Fairfield is 4-1 while Fort Madison is 1-7. The Trojans play in a tournament at Linn-Marr Saturday.
