Fans of high school sports are in the good news, bad news area when it comes to watching games in Iowa.
The bad news is unless someone gets a voucher for a ticket or actual ticket from an athlete competing in the sport the fan wants to watch, they cannot attend the event. The good news is that a majority of schools are offering the chance to watch teams compete, especially home games. An internet connection is required for that.
The chance is offered with schools livestreaming their games or meets. While that provides a window into the competition, it is from a certain viewpoint that never changes.
Most Union area schools have some setup for a livestream.
Although Fairfield will not have a game or meet until next week, the Trojans link for home events is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSRHKPFDWxdaoLepRPpxkCw.
Mt. Pleasant's link for home events is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGqVfbV8LAUxHVM0nepz0_w.
Washington's link for home events is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGLUCdnXeKchlbJaFh8zmg
New London's athletic director Ben Fry said that all of the Tigers home events are streamed on New London Community School District Facebook page.
Highland, which resumed competition today with a wrestling meet at Van Buren County, has this address for its livestream: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT4_DwQ_cOqdzc76JmAGo7A/featured
Columbus's athletic director Jake McCullough said, 'We do stream, but we are going to change here this week.”
Pekin's Brent Blakely said, 'We livestream all our high school athletic events off our Facebook page. Varsity is a priority and we try to get junior varsity when we can. Sometimes they play at the same time and it doesn't allow us to get both out there.”
The Facebook link for the Pathers is https://www.facebook.com/Pekinschool/.
All events that take place in the Mid-Prairie gym will be livestreamed through the NFHS Network. Fans will need to set up a free account by visiting the page: https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/midprairie-high-school-wellman-ia. To do that, click FOLLOW toward the top right of the page, click ‘Sign up for Free!' Create account by entering first name, last name, email address, and password. Click ‘Continue.'
Hillcrest Academy's home page, https://www.hillcrestravens.org/livestream/, has the link to the stream. All of the Ravens' home games will be streamed that way and the school is hopeful to be able to stream its road games too.
WACO's link is www.YouTube.com/WACOWarriorLive.
Winfield-Mount Union posts its events on the W-MU Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/wmucsd.
W-MU wrestling is combined with Columbus and Columbus/W-MU wrestling's only home meet is Jan. 14. 'It should be live on their school website, http://columbuscsd.ss11.sharpschool.com/,” W-MU athletic secretary Brenda Wade said.
Keota is working on offering livestreaming, and hope to be up and running by Dec. 14. A camera was being installed Wednesday specifically for livestreaming of events.
Cardinal has a Facebook page and possibly a feed to watch games but it was unclear and there was no response from its athletic director.
Van Buren County livestreams through its Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/VBCSD.org.
Keota was having a camera installed in its gymnasium Wednesday for the purpose of livestreaming home games for basketball. (Twitter)
